About the Item
Indonesian chessboard from the 1950s made of soapstone carved, consisting of 32 tokens of different sizes in green and black. The checkers are housed of their original box lined inside with red velvet and white satin.
The foot size of the figures varies from 3 to 5 cm and the height varies from 4 to 9.5 cm.
Chess originated in India around the 6th century CE and spread throughout Europe around the year 1000. 20th century oriental manufacture.

Soapstone also known as steatite is a rock that resembles jade, usually occurs green in color and is found on every continent is fire resistant and has excellent thermal conductivity. The presence of talc makes it easily workable while the remaining components make it compact and hard. Saponaria has always been used for various purposes, the workability allowed sculptors to create artistic objects and objects of worship and numerous other works including seals, it was used for lithographic stones, saponaria artifacts have been found in the tombs of pharaohs.
