Weighted Resin Chess Set Game in Jointed Wood Box 9.5cm Kings, Ca 1930s

This is a good and complete English handmade wood "weighted" chess set game of 32 pieces, in its original box with a sliding lid, made by John Jaques of London and dating to the mid 20th century period. The chess pieces are made of turned and carved varnished wood. The bases of ALL pieces are weighted with metal pieces and the bases have a green felt/paper cover. Weighted sets like this one have a much nicer "feel" when playing. The pieces in the set are in the Staunton style. Sizes: Kings: 70mm ( ~ 2.75 inches); Pawns: ~45mm (~1.7 inches) The set comes complete with its original wood storage box, having a sliding lid and complete with a paper makers sticker to the lid. This is a good quality handmade Miniature or travelling wood chess set game of 32 pieces in its own inlaid hardwood box, which we date to the early 20th century, circa 1920. This piece is all handmade. The chess set is complete with 32 wood pieces having pegged bases. The jointed box is handmade of hardwood, possibly walnut with line inlays of a lighter wood to the top and the base. The lid is a good fit to the base and the box has brass hinges and a brass fastener to keep the lid securely closed. This is a high quality Games Compendium, complete with over 8 individual games, all in its original hardwood storage box with a hinged lid. All the pieces are well made and complete. The box is made of a jointed hardwood, possibly red walnut and is a high quality piece in its own right. The box has developed a lovely color and patination from use and wear.
