About the Item

This small box for personal possessions (perhaps papers or letters), is covered in black leather and decorated with borders of brass tacks, including the letters A.T. on its lid, and two diamond shapes and a heart shape on the front side face. The box is lined with a period newspaper, "Sun" 1834. This date may be the approximate age of the box, but this newspaper fragment lining could also have been installed as a new lining for an older box.
