About the Item

Antique Copper Fish Steamer – Welbank’s Boilerette, Banbury, England, c.1900 A well-proportioned and practical antique English copper fish steamer, dating to the early 20th century, around 1900. This piece is stamped Welbank’s Boilerette, Banbury to the lid and was likely manufactured for domestic or small-scale commercial use. It features a tapering copper body with fixed iron loop handles to either side and a removable domed lid in tinned steel, topped with a riveted iron handle bearing the maker’s brass plaque. Internally, the vessel retains its original tinned liner and lift-out wire rack. A brass draining tap is fitted to the front, complete with its original chain and stopper – a detail often missing on similar examples. Measuring approximately 40cm wide x 26cm deep x 27cm high, this is a good-sized and functional kitchen or hearth piece with evident utilitarian charm. Condition: Presented in worn, functional condition consistent with age and use. Surface marks, oxidisation, dinks and small dents throughout. Wear to the underside as shown, with heavy patination and discolouration typical of old copper. No significant losses or structural damage. A sound and honest example of early 20th-century English kitchenware, now increasingly hard to find complete and untouched.
