About the Item

Popular in the 19th century, domed glass displays offered protection for portico clocks and flora & fauna specimens without compromising visibility. Inside this cloche is an oval easel frame, the wiry brass tendrils and charming bird figure liberated from the mirror glass to appreciate the joyful details. A small maker's mark of “A.L.” is visible on the reverse. The arched shape bell of glass fits snugly into an ebonized wooden base, also signed, and trimmed with gold-gilt. View the detailed images.
