About the Item

Unusual size, made of carved Beech with articulated joints and old patinated surface. These were designed to illustrate the human body's joints function. Made in Provence circa 1890. A beautiful representation of craftsmanship from the 19th Century. Crafted from solid beechwood, it stands as a testament to the skill and artistry of French artists at the time. Hand-sculpted realistically, with well-shaped torso mascalature and adjustable limbs. It is posable in multiple ways. This mannequin was created and used as a studio tool. It helped to arrange perspective, study anatomical proportions of the human body, helped check lighting and shadows, and even could assist an artist with painting drapery and clothing on the people within their art.
