About the Item

A Charming and Relatively rare mid 18th century, Georgian, oak miniature kneehole desk, having seven drawers with original turned brass knobs flanking central cupboard door with geometric inlaid decoration. Often there is debate over miniature furnitures original purpose. Was it was made as an apprentice piece, which is where somebody who is looking for a job in a workshop would create something to showcase their talents, or was it made as a travelling salesman sample piece, which is where a few articles were made as scale models in advance of a road trip on which the salesman would travel the country showing prospective clients the kind of items they could produce back at the workshop and take orders from. This beautiful little miniature antique desk is almost certainly a travelling salesmans sample piece. It's form is quite rare and it is intricately designed, making it quite unlikely to be something which an apprentice would be tasked with creating. Indeed an apprentice would be far more likely to have just made a normal miniature chest of drawers. As with all items which we offer for sale this item has been inspected by our trained, specialist antique furniture restorers and received a natural wax polish to ensure it is presented in top condition before being offered for sale. Circa 1750. Measures: Height - 11in. Width - 14in. Depth - 7in.
