Italian Grand Tour Model of a Roman Oil Lamp

About the Item

A decorative Italian Grand Tour model of a Roman oil lamp, circa 1835,in the manner of Benedetto Boschetti (1820-1870). Once a Grand Tour souvenir acquired by an adventurer exploring Europe, this zoomorphic oil lamp’s pale orange shade of marble is beautifully contrasted with a black marble pedestal and further raised on a breccia marble base. Features include a spout that resembles the head of a boar and an intricately handcarved scallop pattern bowl. An interesting ornament for a bookshelf, side table or desk! One can only image the story it has lived… Base: 10 x 10 cm (3.93in square)
