ABOUT An original classroom anatomical educational model which splits in half to show the various organs and veins linked to the respiratory system. The lungs will inflate by blowing into a tube, Illustrating to the classroom how they function. Various tubes run throughout the body but unsure of their function. CREATOR Unknown. United States. DATE OF MANUFACTURE c.1950. MATERIALS AND TECHNIQUES Plastic, Rubber. CONDITION Good. Wear consistent with age and use. An on/off switch (requires two C batteries) turns on a red light on his head. The kidneys do not inflate. There is opening in his nose and mouth which might have expelled air illustrating how he breathes. DIMENSIONS H 30 in. W 14 in. D 10 in. HISTORY Medical educators rely on models to depict anatomical structures in a more efficient format than the cadaver; to move away from the clutter, discomfort, and complexity of a cadaveric dissection; and to clarify characteristics or functions of an anatomical structure that are not readily apparent in situ.
