Early 20th Century Western Apache Wooden Fiddle by Amos Gustina with Stand
About the Item
This exceptional early 20th-century Western Apache wooden fiddle, crafted by the renowned artist Amos Gustina (1858-1945), is a remarkable piece of Native American musical history. Known as a "tsii'edo'a'tl" in Apache, meaning "wood that sings," or "ki'zh ki'zh di'hi" (translated as "buzz sound"), this instrument is traditionally made from the dried stalk of an agave plant. The unique design and materials contribute to the distinctive buzzing sound produced when played, a sound that has long been associated with Apache music.
This fiddle was used for a variety of important cultural functions, including ceremonial songs, social dances, and love songs. The intricate craftsmanship by Gustina, a respected Apache artist, highlights his expertise in both woodworking and musical tradition.
A custom display stand is included, allowing this beautifully crafted fiddle to be proudly showcased as both a functional musical instrument and a work of art. This piece is a rare and valuable collector's item, representing both the artistic and cultural heritage of the Western Apache people.
