This is a rare antique ship's clinometer. An English, heavy brass maritime instrument by H. Hughes & Son of London, dating to the late Victorian period, circa 1900. Delightful nautical instrument to indicate the pitch and roll of a ship Displays a desirable aged patina and in good order Heavy brass frame presents attractive golden tones Large spirit level sits pleasingly within the centre of the frame Annotated from the centreline of 0 degrees outwards to 45 degrees plus and minus Quality vernier adjustment dial sits to the right hand side of the level Engraved model name reads 'Col. C.P. Evelyn's Patented Ships' Clinometer' Colonel Evelyn was a member of the Royal Thames Yacht Club in the late 19th century Further engraved with H. Hughes & Son, Ltd. 59 Fenchurch Street, London Trio of mounting points for ease of fastening to the bulkhead or wall This is a superb and rare antique ship's clinometer, with copious maritime interest. In working order and presenting a clear appearance. As good to observe today as it was over a hundred years ago. Delivered polished and ready to enjoy.
