Circa 1920s ship's masthead lantern, English. A fine example of copper with brass fittings & heavy molded clear glass panel. Retains the likely original oil lmap on copper sliding panel, marked "British Make". The glass known as a fresnel lens amplifies the light emitted. These were essential to navigation & communication prior to modern technology. Weighs 13 lbs. 12 5/8" h., 9 3/8" d., 13" w.
