About the Item

Small wood and brass wall-mounted aneroid barometer in the shape of a six-ankle rudder. Signed SB Smiths British Made Instrument of the 1950s. This is an instrument whose pressure-sensitive organ is a metal box called a barometric capsule. Good condition, working. Diameter 19 cm - inches 7.5, thickness cm 4 - inches 1.7. The last photo is the gift box. This is an ancient measuring instrument whose pressure-sensitive organ is a metal box called a barometric capsule. The capsule contracts or expands as a result of pressure changes, and its movements are transmitted to an indicating pointer by a mechanical system. The development of this type of barometer was due to Bourdon, a French inventor and industrialist (Paris 1808-1884). He founded a factory in Paris in 1835 to build steam engines; in 1849 he invented the metal manometer, to which he linked his name, and in 1853 a type of aneroid barometer.
