About the Item

This truly exceptional 18th century bible box, formed as a book and profusely decorated in pastiglia throughout, in silver and gold gilt, at it's centre the gilt Lamb of God, the pine body stained in a time worn crimson. The quality of this piece is absolutely incredible, and would almost certainly have been for the keeping of the bible within a Catholic church, or possibly was commissioned by an extremely wealthy parishioner. 40.5cm height, 28cm Width, 8.5cm Depth Probably German, late 17th/early 18th Century. Wear, and loses throughout.
