19th Century French Gothic Sacrament cabinet was artfully sculpted from solid oak and fruitwood to create a remarkable religious artifact designed to be appreciated throughout the ages! The trapezoidal form of the casework is in keeping with the Gothic style, which historians concur originated in the Cathedral of St. Denis during the middle of the 12th century. Boldly molded crown follows the complex contours and overlooks the case below which features a single door flanked by cornerposts that feature pilasters facing front as well as the sides, with recessed arched panels topped with recessed circular frames above filled with carved rosettes highlighted in gold. The arched recesses facing the front are also filled with carved floral and wheat motifs also highlighted in gold, representing the Bread of Life. The door panel, however, steals the show, with a gloriously carved relief work depicting both wheat and fully laden grapevines adding the significance of the Blood of Christ...

Museum quality and condition work of religious art with amazing, hand carved details. This amazingly hand carved wooden wall plaque is not only of great quality and condition, it also has a patina that is unlike anything you ever saw. Over the decades we have sold a number of unique and interesting crucifixes, but we had not yet come across one that is inside such a beautiful branches and leaf frame in the Swiss Black Forest style. One of a kind, handcrafted display cabinet with a rare religious artefact. This excellent wall display cabinet still opens and closes perfectly and it comes with the original antique glass in the door. Finding antiques with the original glass with that beautiful ripple in it, always makes those pieces extra desirable (in our view). The striking acorn and leaf motifs in the handcrafted, molded borders of the door too are very stylish features to enjoy. Over the decades the gilding has slightly warn off, which has created a marvelous patina. Given the style, age and perfect fit, we think that this antique wall cabinet was specifically made for the rare religious fragment that it is holding.
