19th Century Italian Nativity Female Figure
About the Item
An Italian nativity figure from, circa 1840 with its original fabric costume.
Carved from wood with articulated arms, gesso finished head, feet and hands and forearms, painted in naturalist colors, possibly re-painted at later times to maintain religious character. Base has been re-painted at some time to resemble green striated marble.
Costume appears to be original and has age related tears and fading. The front much more faded than the back which has been protected from the light, being against a wall or the like. Overall in very good condition.
It has been in the one collection over the last 23 years, having been bought in Florence, Italy in 1992.
