19th century life-size corpus Christi figure leg We are proud to offer a very unusual religious artifact, dating from early to mid-19th century and either Spanish or Italian in origin. This hand carved, section formed leg would have originally been attached to a large figure of Christ. Likely from a procession figure in kneeling position. This form still has all its origin sections, dowl jointed fittings and original paint. Wonderfully detailed and an exceptional carving just as a sculptural form we believe. From an interior point of view, it could be hung from a ceiling, used as a piece of wall art coming out of a wall, or can stand in the corner of a room. Macabre in visual appeal and just a very unusual important 19th century item. The whole figure would have been quite spectacular as you can image. Size in inches: H 21” x W 21” x D 6” Origin: Spain / Italy Period: 1820-1850 Material: Oak / hardwood Condition report: This item shows natural wear across all its surface, its over 150 years old so has loss of paint and detail, scratches, scuffs and worn wooden areas like the feet. No loss or missing areas without cracks or breaks, this item weights roughly 10kg due to its material.
