About the Item
Antique bible table stand with hand carved cross and open IHS symbols in Gothic quatrefoil in the sides.
This beautifully and fine quality hand-carved Gothic bible stand dates from circa 1890-1910 and it is entirely made of solid (tiger) oak. This rare church relic is in great condition and it has the most beautiful patina. The letters IHS refer to the first three letters of the name of Jesus in the ancient Greek alfabet and here they are perfectly hand carved in a Gothic letter type inside another Gothic symbol, the quatrefoil, which is another famous and meaningful Gothic symbol. The hand carved cross ' The Symbol of Christianity ' in the middle of the large flat part on which your book / bible can be placed too is in excellent condition. All sides are perfectly hand carved and all come with Gothic style elements that make this ecclesiastical bookstand such an attractive piece to own and to look at. And as far as its condition is concerned, we wished that we found all our antiques in this condition, because apart from some truly minor imperfections this antique stand simply could not be in better nor in a more original condition. It stands as strong and stable as the day it was handcrafted and it has the most amazing patina.
