About the Item

Gothic Revival 'sermon on the mount' wall plaque with Jesus teaching. This large size work of religious art depicts Jesus and He is surrounded by both grown-ups and children on either side. This Gothic church wall panel looks to be from the Dutch Gothic Revival era in the 1800s and we have never seen this scene hand carved in such a large and detailed manner. A detailed scene carved in such deep relief will have taken even a very skilled sculptor months rather than weeks to execute highly impressive. The large size, the many Gothic details, the detailed sculpture of Christ, the depth of the carvings, the perfect patina, the very good condition, the rareness and ofcourse the deeper meaning and importance of this church relic together make this a once in a lifetime find. This striking and all hand carved, symbolic panel may originally have been part of a church pulpit and thanks to a pair of antique metal hooks on the back (that were put on later) it can easily and safely be hung on your wall where it can be enjoyed and worshipped by you(r congregation) and by generations after you. From the same collection we also purchased a matching Gothic panel depicting another sermon on the mount scene. You can find that other stunning plaque in our gallery on 1stdibs also. As you can see in image 19 of this listing they also make a great pair to display on the wall of your home or church. If you like this unique religious artefact as much as we do then you will love our price. Also, because perfect packing and worldwide delivery from our store to your door in just 4 to 6 days are complimentary.   Maximum height x width x depth: 38.25 x 21.25 x 4.5 inches. Antique Fine Handcarved Oak Gothic Revival Wall Shrine / Chapel for Statuette
Located in Lisse, NL
Rare and good condition, Gothic-art shrine for standing or wall-hanging. This handsome and decorative, Gothic wall shrine is completely hand-crafted out of solid oak and it will look awesome, no matter where you decide to mount or place her. It must have taken its creator quite a few days to first draw this intricate design on paper and then hand carve the entire piece out of solid oak. The Gothic Style elements are deeply handcarved in both doors and they make this shrine highly decorative and an absolute joy to own and look at. This cabinet chapel (or chapel cabinet) comes with its brass lock in perfect working order and also with its original gothic style key. The handgrip is in fact a Gothic trefoil symbol (for the trinity). What also makes this piece extra attractive is the Gothic church window-like frame behind the doors. It is among the finest we have seen to date and on top of that this antique also has a beautiful and rich patina. By the way, the bronze Mary statuette is not included in our price. Finally, thanks to the hook in the back, mounting this antique chapel...

Antique Gothic Fire Screen w. Handpainted Earth Angle, Saints and Carved Knights
Located in Lisse, NL
Stunning firescreen with a famous earth angle, two famous saint paintings and more. With meaningful 'religious art' from centuries-past being one of our specialities we were amazed, not only to find this rare and marvelous fire screen, but also because of its excellent condition. But then again, we think we see that more often, because true beauty, quality and meaningful antiques radiate something that was already there when it was created. This 'something' commands respect and this is why most people take very good care of very special pieces. Since much of what we know now about Christianity and about monastic life in its various 'forms' was given shape since the life of Christ, but possibly mostly so in Gothic / Medieval times, much of this is expressed in European Gothic Art of the past circa 8 centuries. This rare and beautiful fire screen from the early 1800s, which can also be used as a small room divider or a unique work of (decorative) art, is one of those unique Gothic antiques. The hand-carved knight sculptures are 'fun' and meaningful at the same time, because one of them looks a little desperate and the other looks more at piece and in prayer. The hand-carved winged angel in the middle/ on top seems to be overlooking this 'Gesamtkunstwerk'. What makes this antique really stand out and what also makes it complete are the three hand-painted panels inside this screen. Each of the figures portrayed here have dedicated their lifes to doing good, giving love and hope and thus healing people. In the centre is a glorious painting (in medieval style) of Earth Angel St. Raphael and the boy Tobias. The lady Saint on the right, we feel, is Elizabeth of Hungary (1207-1231) and the Saint on the left, we feel, is either Francis de Sales...
