About the Item
A Brass Mezuzah Case made by Hans Teppich in Jerusalem Circa 1950.
Hans Teppich was born in Germany in 1904. After finishing High-School in Berlin he studied art in evening classes and then continued studying for ten more years in morning classes in the “Kunstgewerbe und Handwerkerschule” in Berlin. He acquired a broad range of art education, including drawing, sculpture, metalwork, bronze casting, metal turning, and interior design.
In 1933 he immigrated to Israel and established a workshop in Jerusalem. In his workshop, he created different practical art objects including Hanukkah lamps, Candlesticks, Mezuzot, Israeli flower-shaped Spice boxes, many beautiful pieces of jewelry, and unique chess sets. Teppich was a genius artist. He became famous for his Biblical figures and Judaic items.
While this Mezuzah case does not compare to the figurines and other works of Teppich, the simple yet modern design presented here in this Mezuzah case shows us a glimpse of Teppichs ingenuity.
Made in a cylindrical fashion with small dome caps on both ends the case is fitted into its extending holder at the back. Several indented rings are present on the modern design, and a small pierced circular window at the center enables us to see the scroll when placed within.
Signed and marked at the back of the brass holder.

A Mezuzah Case by Chava Wolpert Richard, New York Circa 1970, Judaica
Located in New York, NY
A Modern Mezuzah Case made by Chava Wolpert Richard in New York Circa 1970.
Chava Wolpert Richard was an artist who dedicated her career to the creation of Jewish ceremonial art. Growing up in the shadow of her father, Ludwig Yehuda Wolpert — one of the most influential innovators of modern Judaica of the twentieth century — she soon carved out her own career and came to be recognized as an artist in her own right.
Richard brought several innovative practices to the art of Judaica. For example, her mezuzah cases of the early 1960s were made of aluminum coated with phenolic.
This Mezuzah case is one of the classic examples of the modernistic designs. Reverse and rounded sides are made of aluminum and the front center is coated with phenolic. The front black panel fits smoothly into its rounded sides where a mezuzah scroll...
