Handcrafted Sterling Silver Kiddush Cup and Plate Set Signed Israel, 1980

About the Item

A stunning example of handcrafted Judaica, this sterling silver Kiddush cup and matching base were made in Israel in 1980 and are both signed by the artisan. Elegantly designed and richly detailed, the set reflects the artistry and symbolic resonance of traditional Jewish ritual objects. The Kiddush cup features a flared, goblet-style form with a highly polished surface and is adorned with high-relief appliqués of grape clusters and vine leaves—symbolic of abundance, joy, and the sanctity of wine in Jewish tradition. The central band of the cup showcases a finely cut-out Hebrew inscription, reading "בורא פרי הגפן" (“Borei Pri Hagafen” – "Creator of the fruit of the vine”), the traditional blessing over wine. This openwork band adds both visual and symbolic depth, seamlessly joining spiritual meaning with craftsmanship. The stem transitions gracefully into a circular foot, which rests on a pierced base of vines and grapes in full relief, creating a sculptural and almost architectural impression. Each detail—from the curling tendrils to the clusters of silver grapes—is rendered with remarkable precision. The accompanying plate is equally ornate, resting on four small curved feet. Its wide rim is fully encircled with matching grapevine repoussé, providing a unified decorative theme. The base is stamped "925," "Israel," and features a Hebrew signature, confirming its sterling silver content and origin. This set is more than a ritual vessel—it is a celebration of Jewish heritage, ideal for elevating Shabbat and holiday tables. A meaningful gift, heirloom piece, or collector’s item for those who appreciate fine Judaica and silverwork.
