With works of religious art being one of our specialties, over the decades we have sold quite a few special antiques in this field. With this bronze antique the artist clearly shows us a fragment out of one of the most famous scenes that took place in the history of mankind. Christ has already been beaten, mocked, given a wreath of thorns and having to carry the enormous cross. As you can see the quality of the details and the workmanship is excellent, but the scene and its meaning ofcourse is even more impressive. Please notice how particularly the facial features reveil the peaceful state of being that lies underneath the exterior of this Christ sculpture. It takes a special artisan to create such a marvelous image of Jesus. The facial hair, the subtle and perfect neck (or throat) area and the crown of thorns are some other perfect elements that will keep drawing your attention to this rare and stunning wall sculpture. This finest quality and deep relief bronze is signed in the bottom right corner (see image 16), but we have not been able to find out about this clearly skilled artist whom created this ecclesiastical bronze plaque. This Jesus Christ sculpture is in superb condition, its amazing patina makes the depth and details of this beautiful face of Christ stand out even more.

Crucifix from the mid-1800s with a carved shroud or veil depicting Christ in the base. This unique and remarkable antique crucifix can both be used as a table and as a wall crucifix. Over the decades we have sold a number of unique and very well crafted crucifixes, but never one in the Art Decò style with this combination of materials and techniques. The overall design and size is what stands out first, but the details and the materials are what make this antique work of religious art extraordinary. The relatively large base of this unique crucifix is a work of religious art in its own right. It is almost as if the cross is growing from this beautiful base and the cross itself too comes with a number of superbly inlays details. With their symbolic meaning of birth and resurrection it is obvious why the artist / sculptor so tastefully incorporated them here. Apart from a minor 'lean' to the left, the cross itself too is in excellent condition.
