17th Spanish Sculpture in Carved Silver Gild Wood Saint Michel, Castilia
Located in Valladolid, ES
One of a kind Baroque Spanish St Michel sculpture. A museum piece !!
The artistic imprint shows the typical Castilian traces in the conception and interpretation of the subject. This allows us to frame the attribution to a close circle of the stela left by Gregorio Fernández (1576-1636) in the very recognized Castilian circle.
The artist responsible for the creation of this magnificent carving has undoubtedly been trained in the footsteps of Fernández in the Castilian Baroque context. He powerfully remembers the Archangel San Miguel preserved in the reliquary of the Church of San Miguel de Valladolid; belonging to the first third of the seventeenth century.
Both carvings show great parallels in the spatial conception, in the configuration of the cloths...

Late 19th Century Ottoman Empire Silver Megillah Case and Esther Scroll
Located in New York, NY
The book of Esther is known as the only Bible book, besides the Song of Songs, that does not explicitly mention God. In this Megillah it seems that the sofer (the Jewish scribe of religious writings) was determined to show that the name of God does appear in the text, thus he accented in bold various letters from the text, which combined will read as various names of God. The scribe has also added small pointing hand symbols to the first column, to guide the reader to finding the ‘hidden message’.
Manuscript on vellum, text arranged in 20 lines, housed in an elaborately silver container of impressive and extraordinary handwork with a handle for rolling the Megillah up in the container. Silver filigree work of vegetation and flowers. The Megillah case...
