About the Item

A Stunning Pair of Carved Olivewood, Bone, and Mother of Pearl Atzei Chaim made in Jerusalem in 1913. Atzei Chaim are made of beautifully hand-carved olivewood and inlaid mother of pearl, bone, and silver. Multicolored strips of painted wood is inlaid decorating the stepped finished sides of the Atzei Chaim. Along the circular flat surface are mother-of-pearl roundels embedded in the olivewood with different pierced motifs of flowers and Stars of David. In between the mother-of-pearl roundels are various holy sites carved into the olivewood and are marked at the sides identifying each one. At the center, a ring of silver is inlaid with clear engraved dedications along with the year and place where the Atzei Chaim were made with an etched Star of David. Affixed to the center is a pentagon-shaped handle adorned with more mother-of-pearl inlays and painted with checkered and multi-colored inlaid strips. Crown-designed bone finial is applied to the tip of the rising olivewood handle.
