A Pair of Carved Wood, Mother of Pearl and Silver Atzei Chaim , Poland 1901

About the Item

A Beautiful Pair of Carved Wood, Mother of Pearl and Silver Atzei Chaim, made in Poland in 1901. This Lovely Pair of Atzei Chaim is one of the relics with which Torah Scrolls were adorned in Europe at the turn of the twentieth century. Made with polished and carved redwood and adorned at the top with mother of pearls with different-sized shapes and painted to resemble flowers and toadstools and small circles. A large copper flower is inlaid among the circle mother of pearl inlays and surrounds the center. At the center, a silver roundel is embedded with biblical verses along with the year the Atzei Chaim was made. Inside the roundels, there are silver rings made with the same piece of silver and bent downward to furnish the chased scrolling designs within. Affixed to the center is the handle which is similarly designed with mother pearl inlays in flower and circle designs separated into sections by copper inlays. A silver band is applied to the bottom of the handle and a twisting bone design is placed around the top which is mounted by a pierced copper lower crown and a pierced silver upper crown with a brass monde.
