A Wood, Silver and Mother of Pearl Torah Pointer, New York 1990. Judaica

About the Item

A Decorative Wood, Silver, and Mother of Pearl Torah Pointer made in Brooklyn New York, in 1990. Judaic Torah pointers are most commonly found to be made with silver or some sort of metallic material. Interestingly only some this pointers parts of made with silver and Mother-of-pearl but most of its main body is made with carved wood. The first part of the large square wooden handle is decorated on two of its sides with inlaid bone displaying the scenery of Jerusalem with its stone walls topped with crenellations along with the outline of the tomb of Rachel at the center with its domed roof. Above the Jerusalem scene are inlaid Mother-of-pearl strips befitting an overlooking sky in cloud shapes. Second part of the handle tapers in a triangular shape with inlaid silver strips on two sides terminating to a pedestal on which a sleeved hand with a pointing finger is applied. A long chain is looped through the upper part of the handle on the opposite side.
