"Wooden Sculpture Of Saint James The Great, 18th Century (tyrolean School)" 18th-Century Carved Wood Figure of Saint James the Greater (Tyrolean School) Description: A finely carved and polychromed wooden sculpture depicting Saint James the Greater, also known as Santiago, crafted in the early 18th century, attributed to the Tyrolean region (present-day Austria or northern Italy). The saint is portrayed in traditional pilgrim attire, holding a long staff topped with a gourd in his right hand and a closed book in his left — iconographic attributes commonly associated with his role as patron of pilgrims and protector of travelers. He wears a voluminous dark cloak and wide-brimmed hat, delicately modeled with soft facial features, a neatly trimmed beard, and traces of original pigmentation still visible. The figure stands on an integrated oval base, showing signs of historical wear and a beautifully aged patina. Executed in pinewood, the statue bears the hallmarks of Tyrolean folk-Baroque craftsmanship, with stylized drapery, expressive carving, and understated elegance. Likely intended for a private devotional setting, wayside shrine, or chapel niche. Dimensions: Heigth 31 cm Condition: Good antique condition with age-consistent wear.
