A rare example of a botanical maquette for didactic use by Professor T. Ferraris, depicting a (natural) strobilus and a scale with ovules (about 12 times enlarged) of Spruce (Picea excelsa Lk), a family of conifers. Made of paper mache, and hand painted wood. Extremely detailed. G. B. Paravia & co, Milan, Italy around 1900.
