WORLD WAR I BRITISH TRENCH PERISCOPE WALKING CANE R & J Beck, Ltd., England, ca. early 20th century Marked "Periscope Mk IV 1917 R & J Beck Ltd. No. 13196" 36" H x 3 3/8" W An unusual and fun walking cane by the telescope and periscope maker R & J Beck, Ltd., the top features a trench periscope that is removed by unscrewing the brass and copper handle and withdrawing the length of the tube. It functions beautifully with a subtle focus adjustment in the rotating eyepiece. A simple natural shaft terminating in a brass cap. Condition: Abrasions, dents and dings to the periscope. Glass is a bit cloudy and dirty.
