About the Item

Deconstructed Lobster Pair (Homeras Gammarus) (Palinurus Elephas) Under a Custom Glass Case Homarus gammarus, known as the European lobster or common lobster, is a species of clawed lobster from the eastern Atlantic Ocean, Mediterranean Sea and parts of the Black Sea. It is closely related to the American lobster, H. americanus. Palinurus elephas, a frequently captured type of spiny lobster found in the East Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea, goes by various names such as European spiny lobster, crayfish or cray (in Ireland), crawfish (in England), common spiny lobster, Mediterranean lobster, and red lobster. The deconstruction technique invented by anatomist Edmé François Chauvot de Beachêne in France in the 19th century involves the meticulous disassembly of all the components of a skull or crustacea. In this case, the pieces are re-articulated and positioned in an exploded array on a copper wire support. This is the same technique as the anatomical drawings of Leonardo da Vinci.
