About the Item
Big Game Taxidermy, Waterbuck.
This prepared big game trophy skull mount is of a Water Buck, it may not be antique but it is very impressive. The taxidermy is clean and well prepared, taxidermist unknown. A great pair of spiral-structured horns attached to the skull cap and mounted onto a shaped wooden shield.
The Waterbuck (Kobus ellipsiprymnus) is a large antelope found widely in Savannah grasslands, gallery forests, and riverine woodlands south of the Sahara, with the males larger and heavier than the females and is of a robust build. The shaggy coat is reddish brown to grey, and becomes progressively darker with age. The face is marked with a white muzzle and has light eyebrows and just inside the ears is also light coloured. There is a cream-coloured patch (bib) on the throat with the hair on the neck being long and shaggy. The long, spiral-structured horns, found only in males, sweep back and up. Waterbuck are found in scrub and savannah areas near water, where they eat grasses. Despite their name, Waterbuck do not spend much time in the water, but will take refuge there to escape predators. Females gather in herds of between 2 and 600 individuals, the males keep territories of around 1.2 km² during their prime.
