About the Item

Ultra Rare 1920s Art Deco Dual Cigarette Case & Lighter: Crocodile Design with Original Box (Made in Austria) A striking example of 1920s Art Deco design, this dual cigarette case and lighter combination is as functional as it is beautiful. Housed in its original presentation box, this accessory embodies the glamour and innovation of the Jazz Age. The original outer cardboard box features a gold lid stamped “Ritz” in bold black lettering, a black base with an original paper label marked “256,” and a cream-colored satin interior molded to cradle the case. While the box shows expected age wear—losses, torn edges, tape repair, and handling wear—it remains intact and a rare survival. The cigarette case and lighter itself are a masterwork of Art Deco luxury. Its exterior is decorated in a bold enameled crocodile skin pattern, accented with cream-colored striping reminiscent of Louis Vuitton and Goyard luggage of the period. This unusual crocodile motif makes the piece especially rare and desirable among collectors. Ingeniously designed, the case opens when the lighter portion is tipped backwards, activating a spring-loaded door that reveals two separate cigarette compartments, each fitted with a spring-loaded arm to securely hold cigarettes in place. The interior lip is crisply marked “Made in Austria”, attesting to its origin. Austrian makers of the 1920s and 1930s were celebrated for their precision engineering and fine enameling, producing cigarette cases and lighters that combined elegance with mechanical innovation. The lighter is seamlessly integrated into the case and features a cleverly concealed lever mechanism. Activated from the case’s edge, the lever exposes the flame-side of the lighter, underscoring the ingenuity of its design. The exterior box shows wear consistent with age, including edge losses, surface tears, tape restoration, and general handling. The cigarette case and lighter are in overall excellent vintage condition, with only three small enamel losses on the upper portion of the lighter, minor and restorable if desired. Functionality of the doors, arms, and lighter components remains strong. Cigarette cases and lighters were among the most fashionable personal accessories of the 1920s and 1930s, embodying the Art Deco aesthetic of luxury, modernity, and streamlined form. Austria was a leading center for high-quality cigarette case production during this era, with makers exporting their designs across Europe and America. The rarity of this crocodile-pattern enamel design, paired with its original presentation box, makes this piece a highly collectible treasure. This is a museum-worthy accessory that would make a statement in any collection of Art Deco smoking accessories, Austrian design, or luxury fashion history.

Pair of Unopened Congress Art Deco Playing Card Decks in Original Box
Located in Red Lion, PA
Pair of Unopened Congress Art Deco Playing Card Decks in Original Box – Sealed with 10-Cent Tax Stamp This pair of unopened Congress Playing Card decks is a rare find, preserved in its original Art Deco box. The exterior of the box showcases an elegant floral block print design in black and gold on a deep red paper, exuding classic 1920s-1930s sophistication. The interior is lined in gold paper and features two compartments, each containing an unopened deck of cards wrapped in original wax paper and sealed with the U.S. Playing Card seal and a 10-cent playing card tax stamp, a mark of authenticity and a nod to its historical significance. The two decks exhibit stunning Art Deco motifs, one featuring an intricate symmetrical pattern, while the other presents a bold geometric portrait of a man, titled "Serge" at the bottom. A sample card with a cut corner is included in each compartment, allowing a glimpse of the designs without breaking the seals. Despite its age, the cards remain in excellent antique condition, with only minor creasing and a tear/minor loss on the wax paper wrapping. First introduced by The U.S. Playing Card Company in 1881, Congress Playing Cards were known for their luxurious quality and artistic designs, often featuring elaborate backs that reflected the era’s artistic trends. By the early 20th century, Congress decks became a status symbol, frequently gifted and collected for their refined craftsmanship and decorative appeal. The 10-cent tax stamp on each deck dates back to the Revenue Act of 1894, when the U.S. government required playing card manufacturers to affix a tax stamp as proof of payment. These stamps remained in use until 1940, making them a valuable feature for collectors of vintage playing cards and historical ephemera. Condition & Collectability Cards: Pristine, sealed in original wax paper with only minor creasing; one tear in the wax paper. Interior Box: Clean and well-preserved. Exterior Box: Shows signs of wear with paper loss, dented and torn corners, water damage, and an affixed white sticker—evidence of its long history and original use. This sealed pair of Congress Art Deco playing cards...
