About the Item

Three organic ceramic bowls or ashtrays, that loosely stack. Black, Brown and Tan. All three signed, M.Negoro, and two with additional Alfred University info. Minnie Negoro (Japanese/American, 1919-1998) was born in California, but because of her Japanese heritage, she was interned during WW2 at a labor camp in Wyoming. During that time she met Daniel Rhodes, a graduate of the College of Ceramics in Alfred, NY. He was employed by the US government to established a tableware factory for the US troops. There he introduced her to ceramics and encouraged her to go to Alfred where she earned her masters degree in 1950. Negoro was a professor of ceramics at the University of Connecticut from 1965-1989.
