3 Rare Minnie Negoro Japanese Female Organic Design Ashtray Bowl Noguchi Jouve
About the Item
Three organic ceramic bowls or ashtrays, that loosely stack. Black, Brown and Tan. All three signed, M.Negoro, and two with additional Alfred University info.
Minnie Negoro (Japanese/American, 1919-1998) was born in California, but because of her Japanese heritage, she was interned during WW2 at a labor camp in Wyoming. During that time she met Daniel Rhodes, a graduate of the College of Ceramics in Alfred, NY. He was employed by the US government to established a tableware factory for the US troops. There he introduced her to ceramics and encouraged her to go to Alfred where she earned her masters degree in 1950. Negoro was a professor of ceramics at the University of Connecticut from 1965-1989.
