Antique Chinese Cameo Agate Snuff Bottle
About the Item
Antique Chinese Cameo Agate Snuff Bottle, rounded square from with raised foot rim and round neck, concave mouth rim, narrow mouth, well hollowed depicting a horse, bee and a monkey. in relief on the front side using the caramel skin in reserve on the translucent grey/white striated body, mock mask and ring handles carved on the sides. Completed by a carnelian stopper with brass fitting, vinyl collar and well carved wood spoon. The symbolism of horse, bee and monkey is a Chinese rebus "Ma Shang Feng Hou" (马上封侯) which means "May you be promoted to the rank of Marquis immediately". Label on base “Wellers Goldney Collection”. 2-5/8 in. high x 2 in. wide x 1 in. deep. 3.8 oz. (108g.) 19th century.
