EVANS 1952 For Loyal Automatic Table Lighter In the Shape Of Large Leather Boot

About the Item

Automatic table lighter designed by Evans. Stunning automatic lighter, created in America by the Evans Company, back in the 1952. This very handsome piece has been crafted in the shape of a boot, most probably as a promotional item by the Loyal Boots Company. It is made in genuine cordovan leather and chromed steel. These full automatic Evans lighters model were produced after the exclusive Ronson reissue patent No.19023 expired on June 12, 1952. Stunning modernist design, very decorative and surely a great conversation piece. Model: Automatic table lighter Materials: Chromed steel, gilt and red cordovan leather. Weight: All together 504.50 Grams. Measurements: 129.5 mm by 44.50 mm by 209.5 mm (5.10 x 1.75 x 8.25 Inches). Rarity: Rare never seen another example like this. Marks: Lighter is stamped with the maker's mark and signed as follow; "EVANS FUEL MADE IN USA". Boot is stamped, "GENUINE CORDOVAN LEATHER BY LOYAL". Evans The Evans Company first started out as a handbag and accessory manufacturing company, originating from Attleboro, Massachusetts as a novelty company in 1918. However, by the late 1920’s, the company took on a different path and began to manufacture lighters with a “lift arm system”. This system is very similar to the one used by the Alfred Dunhill Company – minus the fact that the flint wheel was located vertically, rather than horizontally. Many lighters were manufactured by the Evans Company with this “lift arm system” with a variety of attractive styles, including enameled cases. In addition, the Evans Company produced complementary cigarette cases and perfume sprays. Soon after, the “lift arm system” began to lose popularity with the onset of a new lighter system – the Ronson system, which was clearly more user-friendly. Another version of the Ronson system was launched by the Evans Company, called the Trig-A-Lite. However, the Ronson Company noticed the similarities between the two systems and ultimately filed a lawsuit against the Evans Company for copyright issues. The lawsuit continued on for several years, until the Ronson Company finally won and received their settlement from the Evans Company. In the 1940’s and 1950’s, the Evans Company was known to manufacture a large variety of decorative lighters. These uniquely shaped lighters were adorned with enameled bases and were even available in the shapes of different fruits. The interior of the lighter was the same for all the models. The uniform lighter unit was useful because it was able to fit in any sort of shape and design, and thus it was utilized for many years to come. As times changed, the old system was replaced with butane. The Evans Company introduced a butane system in the same size as the original decorative bases to facilitate the change. The Evans Company continued to manufacture lighters into the early 1970’s.”. Note: This piece is empty of any flammable, gas or butane substances and is ready to be ship by any carrier. Desk table lighter designed by Samuel E. Ghinn. This is a superb and very rare table desk semi automatic petrol lighter, created in Cincinnati Ohio by Samuel E. Ghinn, back in 1923. This lighter was manufactured at the S.E. Guinn Mfg. Co. with geometric patterns in solid polished brass. The ignition mechanism is semiautomatic, with a very unusual and complicate system. Guinn is best known for his distinctive automatic table and desktop Bell Lighters, Samuel Guinn was an important early American designer and manufacturer. Guinn's first lighter design was patented in 1917, an automatic ferrocerium sparking attachment for gas kitchen stoves. His first full automatic petrol lighter design was patented in 1923, more than three years before the more famous Ronson "one motion" design. Guinn patented several variations of his original lighter design during the mid 1920, reflecting both mechanical improvements and different design variations targeted for home and commercial use. Lighter production continued until the early 1930s when the company went bankrupt, Guinn passed away in 1935. This piece is very gorgeous with an outstanding look and great eye appeal. Aldunil gas lighter designed by Alfred Dunhill This is a very rare gas pocket-lighter, created in France for the Alfred Dunhill Company in Paris, back in the 1952. This semi-automatic lighter is the iconic and popular Aldunil model, crafted with art deco patterns in solid .800/.999 sterling silver with 18 karats rose-gold vermeil. All finished with high polish and substantial weight. This very early Aldunil Dunhill lighter is highly collectible and is decorated with diagonal undulates ribbed lines. Model: ALDUNIL. First Produced: Paris, France 1952. Material: 18 karats rose gold. over .800 Sterling silver. Weight: 74.4 Grams, (47.70 Dwt). Measurements: 60 mm by 23 mm by 12 mm (2.36 x 0.91 x 0.47 Inches). Hallmarks: Stamped with French marks: the jewelry atelier maker's mark, three times with the mark of the Crab for the assay of the .800 silver, the Parisian maker's mark, the reference number, the six-digits serial number and signed in full as follow, "DUNHILL PARIS 64 134482". Alfred Dunhill He inherited his father’s London saddlery in 1893. Following the increase in motor car ownership, Alfred developed the business to include motoring accessories, which he called ‘Dunhill’s Motorities’. This included goggles, timepieces, picnic sets, and leather coats, and it wasn’t long before the brand became associated with men’s general motoring attire. They opened two shops in Mayfair and had a catalogue of over 1300 items. Between the 1904 and 1905, Dunhill introduced their ‘Windshield Pipe’, to help drivers combat the effect of wind and travel on their ability to smoke. This marked both the end of the ‘motorities’ focus and their entry into the world of smoking ephemera, and they shortly opened their first tobacconist in 1907 on Duke Street.
