About the Item
This is an extraordinary set of seven Puppets depicting the characters of the Venetian Art Comedy of Art in the theater, the Doctor, the Miserly, the Captain, the Brother and then Isabella, Silvia and Leandro, young people in love.
These rare pieces hail from the Mid-18th Century, Venezia, Italy.
Every puppet showcases exquisite craftmanship through meticulously hand crafted details of the finely decorated clothes and hairstyles and are the result of the high level craftemanships of the Venetian master sculptors. The base is made in lacquered carved wood with the iron wire holder.
Those are pieces with stunning beauty that can perfectly matches with every timeless home. It can be a little treasure to collect.
One of the distinctive characteristics of Venetian Baroque and Rococo furniture and decorative objects, is the skilful use of lacquers. Lacquer is a natural resin that was very rare in the past, imported from the East and used to create smooth and colored surfaces on furniture, ready to be finely decorated with refined floral designs or exotic animals.
Venetian artisans became masters in lacquer processing which required time and patience because it was made with many steps.
The Venetian style deeply influenced furniture design throughout Europe, but none reached the Venetian level in terms of beauty. The skillful use of lacquer and carvings defined Venice's unique style during the Rococo period, its Golden Age.
The pieces are in very good state od maintenance and guaranteed original in every parts. The surface was only cleaned not restored and it is original.

This is a large and bright red and yellow lacquered wooden box, entirely decorated with prints cut and applied with the tecnique called "arte povera" . At the centre of the lid a large country landscape with figures inspired by 18th Century Venetian views that recall the themes of Arcadia. The prints come from the manufacture of Remondini Bassano, that was the most important printers in the Europe at that time.
