Antique Japanese Takeda Ningyo

About the Item

Japanese Takeda Ningyo, depicting a kabuki actor on the stage, dressed in kinran dragon & cloud brocade coat with sleeves thrown back, chirimen silk crepe sleeves of inner coat embroidered in a couched gold wrapped thread dragonfly design popular for warrior class, standing with left foot kicked forward, holding aloft a tobacco pipe in the right hand and an arrow in the left hand, a sword at the waist, the head carved of wood covered in gofun with fine painted youthful features and inset hair, tall court hat with paper ribbon, on a traditional unfinished kiri wood box stage base on four feet with embroidered inset front panel. Small gofun crack at the chin, minor signs of age, otherwise fine condition. 16” high overall. Edo Period, ca. 1820.
