About the Item

Minimalist Kokeshi, made in the 1960s by Aida Seihou, aka Harumine, one of the pioneers of the Sosaku Kokeshi (Creative Kokeshi). Beautiful wood grain, very cute shape which recalls an old person. Rare, very good condition, signed. The kokeshi in few words ? Handmade in Japan, these dolls come from the Tohoku region, which has lots of natural hot springs and where they were sold as souvenirs to the tourists. They come in a variety of shapes, colors, sizes and decorations, from the most traditional one to the most creative one, and the craftsmen who make them are awarded (among which the coveted Prime Minister Award) for the most beautiful kokeshi of the year.
