About the Item

Unique pair of antique bookends in a rare color alabaster. If you are looking for decorative, practical, very well handcrafted and meaningful bookends then this pair could be perfect for you. Birds in general often are vibrant and beautiful creatures to look at and that is exactly what makes these wonderfully stylized and colorful pigeon sculptures so decorative. Their size and weight also make them very practical to use for their bookends-purpose. The quality of the body postures and the Fine details (including the original glass eyes) of these pigeons reveil that they are the work of a very gifted sculptor. They are the international symbol for peace and in Christianity they are the symbol of the holy spirit. But when it comes to them having a deeper meaning, to us, their spiritual meaning as being the symbol of ones intuition is the most beautiful. When a pigeon crosses your path, it is telling you that just like them (the sense of direction of pigeons is as steady as a compass) you should trust and follow your intuition. Apart from some minor losses to the tail-end and to one corner of the base of one of these bookends (see image 18) they are in excellent condition. This unique pair will make a great gift for yourself or somebody else who is into decorative sculptural art with a deeper meaning. And all of the above simply make them beautiful antiques to look at.
