About the Item
Rare, beautiful, practical, decorative and meaningful bookends.
In all our years of collecting, buying and selling antiques we have never seen a pair of alchemist bookends. They come from the same home as the alchemist painting that we published on 1stdibs earlier this week and the resemblence with the archetypical alchemist in that painting is striking. Maybe we are wrong, maybe it is a coincidence and in that case these eager 'students' are perhaps professors, scholars or librarians. Either way, to us these eager to learn and read 'bookworms' are the perfect archetypes for sculptural bookends. These good size and all hand-carved wooden bookends are beautiful in shape and color and they truly are a joy to own and look at. The beautifully bent and also hand-crafted metal glasses they are wearing, to us, are like the icing on the cake of these stylish and timeless antiques. These mint condition bookends also make a great gift for a teacher, for a student, for an author or for anyone else with a more than average interest in books or in sharing and gaining knowledge.
