French 1700's Stage Coach Messenger Box with Horse Hair and Iron
About the Item
This whimsically charming 18th c. French messenger box is quite the unique find. The outside is covered in horse hide with a bit of the hair still intact. The leather is held in place with hand-forged iron straps and corners with hand-forged locks and handles, finished with bronze and iron tacks. The locking mechanism has a hanging piece that covers the key hole. The piece opens and closes, but there is no key. The interior is lined with Dominotiers paper.
One can only wonder how many pieces of correspondence found their way into this box and ultimately into the hands of those anxiously waiting to hear from the sender. Truly an unusual era with its simplicities, yet complexities of design as found in this chest.
This box would make a most wonderful display piece on a shelf or table. Many of these types of boxes are found in museums across the world.

1700's Chippendale Style Country Ladder Ribbon-Back Maple Side Chairs, Pair
By Thomas Chippendale
Located in Louisville, KY
If these two chairs could speak, the history they might share. These rare and very early chairs are hand-carved and constructed in a refined primitive country design, reflective of the era. Utilizing a stunning, rich maple, the top rails and cross rails flow with ribbon designs for a touch of elegance. The backs of these chairs are more delicate than others of this period and style. Higher, thinner rails and styles found in these chair backs, mixed with the heavy squared legs and wide band stretchers make these an impressive example of an Early American country chair...
