Late 19th Century French Painted Hotel Lobby Entry Stand with Umbrella Holders

About the Item

Originally used in a French hotel lobby to accomodate guests, this hand carved stand is painted white and features fluted columns at each end with an arch above. Two caned shelves allow for shoes and hats to be stowed. At each end is a brass bar used to hold umbrellas with an original zinc drip pan below each. At the top between the arches are three bars, two of brass and a central wooden bar covered in its original pink velvet. The bars at the top were for laying over scarves and coats. The piece rests on curved feet. An ideal piece for use in an entryway, bathroom, or walk in closet. c. 1890.
