About the Item

A major exponent in Italian design, Giotto Stoppino’s name was associated with some of the best brands throughout his career. As part of the cabinet, Stoppino was also a key proponent of Neo-Liberty: an Italian architectural movement which evolved in the late 1950s in opposition to international modernism. Stoppino’s prolific career saw the creation of many influential and distinctive pieces, often combining an innovative use of plastic with a futuristic design aesthetic. These included the magazine rack 4676 for Kartell (1972), reflective of how Stoppino transformed the everyday domestic into items of high luxury, and the famous ‘Equilibrium’ Lamp 537 for Arteluce (with Gregotti and Meneghetti) in 1967 – so iconic it has been part of the permanent collection at MoMA in New York for five decades.   Long recognised for his contribution to the field, he won the Compasso d’Oro three times, Italy’s industrial design award founded in 1954. This original 4675 Magazine Holder remains in good original condition, some scratches and scuffs, consistent with age and use.
