About the Item

Stunning and dismountable music stand by William Tonks & Son of Birmingham, England. This marked music stand from the late 1800s is a perfect example of the quality and beauty of the handcrafted items from that era. With the beautifully designed and highly decorative cast iron base, this rare antique not only stands strong and firm, it also is a real joy to look at. Both in color and in design, the timeless and handcrafted brass stem & arm contrast perfectly with the heavy base. Just like the adjustable-in-height-arm, the actual oak music Stand too can be rotated 360 degrees. By turning the 'wheel' on which it reads 'protected' (image 7 & 8) you can also change the angle of your music Stand from fully upright to perfectly flat (image 9 & 10). Because of the all of the above, you can put this stylish Stand in any position you like, both when sitting down and standing. This excellent condition antique with its great patina also comes with a harp shaped brass clamp of which we don't know the purpose, but it seems very original (if you do know what it was used for, please let us know). Finally, and this is like the proverbial cherry on the pie, this music Stand even comes with the original, wooden stick with a brass hook (image 20) that would have been used by an 'assistant' who would turn the pages so that the musician could fully concentrate on playing.
