Title: Katie Larmour vintage Liberty of London scarf backed in pure Irish Linen cushion pillow navy black white Description: A one-of-a-kind custom made luxury cushion (pillow) from an exquisite vintage Liberty of London fashion scarf in a bold and striking pattern. Founded by Arthur Liberty, the world famous British department store Liberty of London began trading in 1875 in a small shop called East India House, by the 1920s it was a leading establishment. Liberty was not a designer himself but a businessman who had a gift for recognising talent and new trends. Liberty’s block printed scarves on silk by hand were produced in relatively small numbers. This was reflected in their price which were typically double that of a machine print. With a punchy intercepting black/navy and white design forming various symmetrical rectangles and squares in a pattern pleasing to the eye, almost reminiscent of a Rennie Macintosh work. This elegant showpiece would look superb matched with Mid Century Modern furniture or even a minimalist decor for that eye catching item. A note on the colours - it is not jet back, nor seem blue, one would best describe it as ‘midnight blue’. This is known as darker than navy blue and is generally considered to be the deepest shade of blue, one so dark that it might be mistaken for black, which is how we would view this piece. The white is an ever so slight off-white, cream white. It very much looks like a black and white cushion on first glance. The sumptuous silk is luxuriously soft to the touch with a subtle sheen. Backed in new 100% pure Irish linen, the aristocrat of textiles and certified by the Irish Linen Guild, lined in a layer of natural bamboo wadding, filled with new plush duck feather insert and a concealed zip. The traditional oatmeal color linen is a combination of the unbleached raw colour of the natural flax plant on the weft intertwined with pristine white on the warp, resulting in a beautiful mottled melange effect.
