Brazilian Modern “Jangada” Armchair & Stool in Hardwood & Leather, Jean Gillon
By Jean Gillon
Located in New York, NY
Available today, this Brazilian Modern “Jangada” lounge chair with stool in hardwood & leather by Jean Gillon designed in the 1960s is absolutely gorgeous! The chair's name, "Jangada," was named after the small rustic fishing boats used by fishermen along the northern coast of Brazil. The “purplish” tone of the wood chair contrasts nicely with the iconic caramel leather upholstery, adding to its luxurious and elegant appearance. The upholstery took three months to make and was done by some of the best upholsters in Rio de Janeiro following Gillon’s upholstery methodology (as is showcased in the vintage publications attached). Remains of the manufacturing seal can be seen in the wood base. The nets are new. Owning a "Jangada '' lounge chair is not just about acquiring a beautiful piece of furniture; it's also about possessing a part of Brazilian design history and culture. This chair is a testament to Jean Gillon’s creativity and vision, and it would make an excellent addition to any interior space that values and appreciates the significance of this design. Beyond its physical beauty and unique design, the "Jangada" lounge chair also embodies the Brazilian spirit, an specific aspect of Brazilian Modernism that can be seen in other brazilian icons like Sergio Rodrigues, the Tres Pies chair of Joaquim Tenreiro or the Canoa sofa of Liceu de Artes e Oficios. The gorgeous set is showcased in our showroom next to a Novo Rumo rosewood credenza, a bar cart designed by Geraldo de Barros and the convo looks nothing less than spectacular Size: H32.5, W36, D41.5, SH15.5 (in) H82.5, W91.4, D105.4, SH39.4 (cm) Jean Gillon is a Brazilian furniture designer born in Romania in 1919. He studies at the Architecture and Fine arts Schools at the National University. He founded his first company Fábrica de Móveis Cidam in 1961 after emigrating to São Paulo, Brazil in 1956. Gillon's firm designed many luxury hotels throughout Brazil and homes and stores. He was known for his one of a kind tapestries. His second furniture company, WoodArt, produced full lines of Brazilian rosewood furniture...

Amethyst Geode with Deep Purple Amethyst Druzy, Blue Lace Agate, and Calcite
Located in Ametista Do Sul, BR
A geode that stands as an impressive natural sculpture, with calcite, deep purple, and shiny amethyst, and an aesthetical calcite inclusion interlacing that forms a unique display of natural artistry, a centerpiece. Rarely seen in any Amethyst specimen, the contrast between the deep purple Amethyst and the Blue Lace Agate creates a stunning visual effect. The Blue Lace Agate forms a natural frame in teal, white, and light blue colors that allows the Amethyst to shine from within, bringing its grape-jelly purple, along with intact points, creating a lustrous, sparkly effect to the specimen. The Agate Lines are a very special and rare feature of this amethyst specimen. They formed uniformly throughout the entire specimen. The layers begin with a moss agate matrix containing calcite inclusions, which form beautiful natural flowers. These are covered by the first layer of blue lace agate. Atop this, baby-blue and white laces developed, eventually giving way to the galaxy amethyst, allowing it to shine. To crown the geode, calcite perfectly formed on its side, adding a much needed contrasting aesthetical point to it. On a Cathedral with a Nave top, it stands at almost 19 Inches tall and weighing almost 55 lbs. This exceptional Amethyst with Lace-Agate geode specimen...

Giuseppe Scapinelli Extendable Dining Table for Angelini & Delneri, Brazil 1950s
By Giuseppe Scapinelli
Located in Utrecht, NL
Giuseppe Scapinelli was known as a designer who successfully combined “the classic” with “the modern”, and this table stands as evidence. Scapinelli was a Brazilian designer from São Paulo who did not use any means of mass production. His furniture alternated and combined elements from Italian classicism, innovative aerodynamic lines, and biomorphic shapes. This rare circular table has an amazing construction that praises the firm, Angelini & Delneri. Upon first sight, this model is an elegant circular table made of beautifully grained wood. However, when the table is extended, the elaborate system is revealed by which the extra wooden leaves can be added to extend the length. The artisanal level craftsmanship is as stunning as the design itself, with traditional joinery techniques such as pegs and so-called ‘biscuit’ joints. Besides the extension system, the craftsmanship is also evident in every edge and angle, such as the legs’ curve and the ring strengthening them. This table is very successful at balancing large volumes with clean lines. The legs have rounded edges and are slightly splayed below the wooden ring. This memorable design is from a designer committed to pushing the boundaries of modernist design in Brazil. The form is functional and elegant with subtle flourishes like intricate wooden details and the evident emphasis on functionality. This dining table is a grand piece that will stand out and add character to any interior. Condition: In good vintage condition. Wear consistent with age and use. Dimensions: 47.24 in Ø x 28.34 in H 120 cm Ø x 72 cm H About the designer: Giuseppe Scapinelli was born in Reggio Emilia in Italy on the 2nd of July 1911 and was the 6th of thirteen sons. He graduated after studying architecture in 1941. However, just as his career was starting, it was abruptly interrupted by WW2, and he was forced to live in seclusion in an antique furniture shop...
