19th Century French Gothic Revival Carved Oak Church Pew Bench

About the Item

Bring ecclesiastical charm and architectural character to an entryway, hallway, or dining space with this antique church pew bench. Crafted in France of solid oak circa 1880, the bench features a tall paneled back decorated with carved linenfold-style panels. The top of backrest is subtly slanted and topped with a broad rail, designed to support open hymnals or prayer books, reflecting its original use in a chapel or parish where benches were arranged in facing rows. The shaped armrests and sturdy sides enhance both form and function. This bench is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns a rich patinated oak finish.
