About the Item

An impressive, eye-catchingly attractive and rare Indian bench in lovely antique condition. Hand-crafted in Rajasthan from wonderfully decorative and colourful pieces of 19th Century Raj era architecture, this colourful, sculptural and very interesting bench will add a wonderfully Bohemian, bygone subcontinental decorative aesthetic to any setting. Impressively sized and reassuringly heavy, this charming bench has history, colour, texture, detail and craftsmanship in abundance. Being crafted from teak architecture and furniture ensures that this highly usable bench can be used either indoors or outdoors. This wonderful sculptural tapestry features a kaleidoscopic back comprising of colourful architectural coving inserts, with its apex-shaped back frame, complete with acorn finials, likely repurposed from an antique bed’s headboard. The wonderfully chunky and intricately carved front legs and adjoining apron were likely originally pillars, balusters and architectural coping, as are the ornately curved arms, which you could imagine winding down from a grand old colonial mansion's veranda. The impressive seat is likely crafted of a former door. All in all this is super piece of historic furniture, which won’t fail to add interest, wonderful colouring and a quintessentially Bohemian aesthetic of subcontinental culture to any setting. CONDITION This is in very good antique condition. Structurally sound and sturdy and reassuringly heavy, the solid teak wood has wonderful signs of its graceful ageing throughout and if well looked after it should be just breathtaking in another century or more - please see the photos.
