About the Item

Refined and elegant, this antique bench was crafted in France circa 1920 in the Louis XVI style and features beautifully carved giltwood and a hand-caned seat. The oval frame is adorned with a beaded border and carved acanthus motifs, all retaining a warm, time-softened gilt finish that accentuates the neoclassical detailing. Raised on six fluted and tapering legs joined by a shaped X-form stretcher with a central carved medallion, the bench presents a light and graceful profile typical of Louis XVI design. The hand-caned seat, executed in a traditional six-way pattern, remains in excellent condition with only minor wear and natural darkening from age. Measuring 39.75 inches wide by 14.75 inches deep and 20 inches high, this bench is a versatile accent, ideal at the foot of a bed, in an entryway, as an occasional seat in a living room, or even as a piano bench. A charming example of early 20th century French craftsmanship that blends classical form with enduring decorative appeal.
