French Walnut Upholstered Seat Long Beach from the Mid-19th Century

About the Item

A stylish French walnut long bench with upholstered seat from the mid-19th century. This bench features four seat places marked by an elegantly carved, differentiated backrest, as if four chairs were assembled. The seat rests on cabriole legs in front and straight legs in the back. The ten legs are secured by five side stretchers and a single cross stretcher that runs the length of the piece. Each end features an upholstered armrest. In mid-19th century France, furniture was marked by eclecticism which is characterized by influences from earlier periods such as Renaissance, Gothic, or Louis XV styles. The Louis XV style was all the more important at this time because it was closely linked to the reign of Louis Philippe and the popularity of cabriole legs. Set on the foyer or a hallway, this circa 1840 French walnut bench would bring elegance to any interior.
